Meet Aidan
Aidan Hill came to Berkeley as a student in 2016 and made Southside their home.
A medical health worker and former Vice Chair of Berkeley’s Homeless Commission, they have worked with neighbors on housing, public health, and mutual aid.
Those experiences shape their campaign for City Council District 7 and their focus on housing stability, public space, and reliable City services.
Aidan’s Story
I was born in Fontana, California, and grew up in a working-class family with my grandparents one block away. My grandfather coached me at the park beside my elementary school. I remember children playing in the neighborhood, school “sprinkler days,” and looking out over the town from the nearby hills. Family and shared places were part of ordinary life.
Berkeley entered my life through my older sister, who attended UC Berkeley. I visited her as a child, watched her choreography, and walked along Telegraph Avenue among the students and street vendors. Years later, I returned as a student myself.
At Henry J. Kaiser High School, I spent time in theater, poetry, dance, and mock trial. I went on to Riverside City College, where I studied communication and earned two associate degrees. I served in student government, including as a senator and student body chief justice, and became a head delegate in Model United Nations. I also helped develop a student-run resource center where students could find books, supplies, and basic support. That work brought questions about food, money, and access into the same room as student governance.
I transferred to UC Berkeley in 2016 as a first-generation student and first lived in Unit 2. I later lived in Berkeley student cooperatives and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science. During those years, I worked with CALPIRG, joined students raising concerns about financial aid and tuition deadlines, and took time away from school before returning. I came to know Berkeley as a student, a worker, a renter, and a Southside neighbor.
In 2018, I ran for Berkeley City Council in District 7. Outside the campaign, I volunteered with East Bay Food Not Bombs, worked alongside neighbors at People’s Park, and participated in Youth Spirit Artworks’ tiny-house work. Those experiences kept me close to the practical questions of where people could find food, shelter, water, and a place to spend time together.
I later served on Berkeley’s Homeless Commission and became its vice chair.
In 2019, I moved recommendations concerning a public-health study of unhoused residents and interim space for people living in RVs.
In January 2020, I moved the Commission’s People’s First Sanctuary Encampment recommendation, including amendments on community-selected oversight and liability insurance.
The Commission advanced recommendations on services and conditions for people living outside; each required further City action to be put into practice.
Today, I live in Southside and work as a medical health worker, helping people navigate care and services.
I am a candidate for Berkeley City Council District 7 in 2026.
My life here has included school, work, organizing, and service in City government.
Southside is where I chose to stay, and where I continue to do that work.
